Philosophers, theologians, scientists, linguists and other academics are all welcome on this board. As are the generally clueless, who are very much encouraged to seek the wisdom of others. Pretty much anything that educates or enlightens is welcome here. Have an argument or debate if you want. Spam will be deleted on sight ;D P.S. Kudos to Lord T for the "Enlightenment thread" on which this board is based. It's my idea now...

I'll be here too to start things of. Confucius says: "Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it", 'so look carefully' is what I'd add .

Dare I add the cliché, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder"? Why yes I do. No, not everyone sees the beauty before their eyes, but it takes a special outlook on life to override the in-built filters in the brain and see things as they truly are.
Nice forum, btw. I wish it godspeed!

Confucius said a lot of things. But I know he was secretly a time travelling ninja with superpowers. He thought he fooled the world. Well he didn't trick me
... And moving swiftly on to things that make more sense...
Socrates had a different outlook: "Beauty is a short-lived tyranny."

Muwhahahahahahahaha! The idea is mine! *Strokes white cat*
May I point out the only reason Confucius is in the title because he happened to be the enlightened man of the week! ;D
Confucius was a Chinese philosopher who lived sometime in the past. Apparently he said a lot of interesting things. He had a cool moustache.
What sits at the bottom of the sea and shakes? Confucius, he say, a Nervous Wreck

Who's the fool? The fool, or the fool who follows the fool?
So lets get some debate going here.
I read somewhere that a group of scientists are close to discovering a treatment that will allow humans to live indefinitely, provided they stay out of trouble. Ageing is indirectly caused by the damaging and degeneration of DNA strands in certain cells, so a way to stop this would give the patient eternal youth, effectively. It is expected that people undergoing the treatment will be able to live for approximately a thousand years, before getting hit by a bus or somesuch.
What do you think the ethics behind this are? Living for 1000 years might get quite boring, but there's also the problem with overpopulation.
Discuss.

Not if I get in charge! China must be less populated! *Throws several H-bombs on China, and is praised by Bush for his actions...* And to get rid of fools... *Throws bombs on White House and Pentagon...* And if I'm the only one who lives for thousands of years... No problem!
